Oresund Bridge

Oresund Bridge

The link between Denmark and Sweden has been completed in 2000.

It's composed by a 4 km long artificial tunnel, a 4 km long artificial island and an 8 km long bridge whose main 4 pillars are 204 meters high above the sea level.

The bridge can be crossed by car and by train and it takes roughly 20 minutes.

The bridge connects the two areas of Copenhagen ( Denmark )  and Malmö ( Sweden ). The European route E20 runs on the bridge with a two lane motorway. Moreover beneath the four road lanes there's a two tracks railway ( the Öresund Railway Line ).

Being the two connected countries both part of the Schengen Agreement there are no passport checks nor customs controls when crossing the bridge.

Between the artificial island and Denmark there's a 4 km tunnel that runs underwater: this choice has been made against another bridge section because of the airport being in the nearby

The airport is served by it's own underground railways station from which you enter the airport if you arrive by train.

The trains that run across the bridge are capable of speeds in excess of 200km/h.
