The museum was established in 1922 and housed in two of oldest half-timbered houses in Store Magleby.
Through permanent and changing exhibitions Amager museum highlights cultural history, particularly the Dutch-influenced peasant culture that, in 1500-century, was developed after Christian 2° settled a number of Dutch farmers in order to provide both the castle as the Copenhagen markets with more sophisticated vegetables of a quality that could compete with the already famous vegetable production of the Netherlands.
The interiors of Amager museum are original and taken from the surrounding area and farms, combined with the visual arts, in particular Julius Exner, and with a rich collection of costumes and Amager stitching examples. In addition, there is also a horticultural exhibition. Amagermuseet Hovedgaden 4 St. Magleby 2791 Dragør http://www.museumamager.dk
